The model in the NHL these days is for contenders to push all their chips in. It’s why all of the top contenders this season (besides Carolina) have traded away at least three of their 1st-round picks in a 4-year span. Banners fly forever, etc.

At this point, Florida's goal is to try to cement their dynasty status and and win a couple more cups. Panther's prime window will be opened for at least 3 or 4 more years. If back half of Bennett's contract doesn't age well, I don't think Zito will be that worried. Hell, as a fan, I'd be ecstatic to be in Florida's position right now. Who cares how the contract ages once the team ages and becomes the next Chicago. They may have won 3-5 cups by then.
