I like the atheltic’s top prospect lists as it gives a good snapshot of the talent that teams have who aren’t in the nhl. It’s hard to stay on top of the non nhl prospect pools for each team, and these lists give a good snapshot of how players are doing who I rarely hear about because they’re not in the NHL.
I agree though that it’s not really a good picture of each team’s youth movement.
I don’t think the Flames will move up too much this year because most teams that were above the flames in the January rankings picked ahead of the flames in this draft, and these lists are heavily weighted towards top of the draft A level prospects, even though I think Wheeler will have a lot of praise for the depth of the Flames’ system. They’ll probably land at 11 or 12.
