I realize that Calgary isn't Vegas. That said, if a team decides it's time to tear it down or retool, then it would make sense to define your future core, and move the rest of the players, even if they have more than 1 year remaining on their contracts.

Different situations, though.
Tuch was traded in the Eichel trade. Tatar was traded in the Pacioretty trade. Both were traded to get a better asset back.
Smith, Schmidt, and Miller were all traded for salary cap reasons, essentially, iirc.
