Very little of your first two paragraphs has any sort of truth to it.
Doesn't think long term ... traded all their UFAs for futures, and went into a season with $20M in cap space.
Fantasy world on verge of a cup run ... once again didn't spend the $20M, didn't add at the deadline.
What they didn't do is move every single experienced player on their roster and didn't things at a measured pace.
You can critique that against your very limited "this is the only way" view, but the rest you're just making up.
