It is an interesting angle on this strategy. Are the Flames waiting too long and conceding leverage to the player? It appears that way. If other teams are not prepared to meet the price because Andersson, like Hanifin, is letting it be known that he only interested in extending with certain teams, surely that limits the pool of potential suitors.
I think there’s two sides to this argument, either the Flames become a bit more ruthless and trade players for max value regardless of their situation, or stay the course. I think there’s two sides Flames over the past couple seasons have become fairly player friendly l, and this has its benefits, I think. I think it is important for the Flames to demonstrate consistency in their approach.
