This is the point. If they have a specific player in mind, unless they’re acquiring pick #1 there’s just too much risk in pulling such a deal until the team with the pick is selecting. Maybe there are a suite of players the Flames would consider, but unless they are confident that moving up would assure them of one of the players trading up to a top 5 slot is a gamble at this point.
If they are talking picks 10 and down, they would probably be satisfied with a number of players, but if they would be trading into the top five they would need some assurances they could acquire their target(s).
