He’s exactly the type of player who thrives when he wants to - and he wants to get another big contract
He can either by flipped at the deadline for most likely more then the canucks paid as a rental if Van does poorly or helps them be good
Van only has to deal with him for 1 year (or until trade deadline ) and worse case you just tell him to F off and lose a mid pick

Let's start with saying this is valid. Yet, the thing with "politics" , especially in a organization that is trying to recover from a toxic era is:
- Kane gets in, and gains dressing room allies
- Kane gets in, and alienates others in the room.
- Short leash or not, at some point it could get pulled.
- He runs his mouth about how the Org is so unfair, especially seeing how he needs to have a good year.
- Room is fractured yet again because its fragile and predisposed to doing so.
Just call it a hunch, but for a club that is building is this risk worth it? You can say Kane was "better" in Edmonton but his last shift this year, playing for a winner, and playing well, he came unglued.
Just an armchair GM, but this is a dumb bet.
