The risk to take Raz into the season and to the deadline is much higher than dealing him now.
The only reason to take him to the deadline is if you think you can get more for him. However, there are many more factors against that notion than for.
For:
Raz kicks ass the 1st half of the season and looks the best he's ever looked.
More contending teams find RHD is their missing piece.
Against:
Raz does good, we are fringe PO team, we sell him at the deadline and fall apart. Not good for culture, not good for our own pick.
Raz gets hurt - we see a Josh Donaldson situation when he left the Jays for peanuts.
Raz doesn't do awesome and he is now priced like he has produced lately - with no more hope that teams see that as an anomoly.
Raz pulls a Hanifin and forces his way to some teams that limit our return.
Raz doesn't resign right away and teams now pay rental only price for him - whereas if we sell him now, teams have a whole season to resign him or deal him themselves at the deadline for a return (aka Canes and Raantanen (but less expedited)).
Raz is gone at the start and Flames can really see what we have on this team. Also, Parekh gets more sink or swim minutes and Bru may get a shot to stick.
