Cinque Terre in north west Italy is definitely a worthwhile stop, though living in the south of france might already have similar feel and scenery. Depends where in the south of france you are living I suppose!
I would also highly recommend Cagliari, Sardinia. Poetto beach is the best in the entire world, IMO.
Christmas markets in west germany are great. Aachen had a really good one when I was there.
Lucerne in Switzerland is like turbo banff.
Not sure if this is the type of vibe recommendation you are looking for.
