The Sharks needs 2-3 top 4 D that can contribute now. They are not going anywhere with a top 4 of Ferroro, Liljegren, Thrun, and Desharnais and they are now wasting time on Celebrini and company.
They are not going to care about how old a player is at the end of their contract, all that matters is that they get out of their rebuild now.
Also, what young D do you see as being available and ready to step into a top 4 role? Byram? Anyone else? It's cool to talk about the hypothetical "other" but without a real alternative, Ekblad and Andersson remain the best available #1RD.
And Ekblad is even older than Andersson so there is a whole world of difference to consider in how old and broken down he is.
