It's really unlikely to roll into the season, but I like this tactic for the Flames, as they very much can still go into the season with a guy that's motivated and likely to have a big year as he'll be looking to get paid.
His value is probably highest from now to end of July, but it'll probably stay pretty high up to the deadline.
The only concern I have if it drags into the season is that it'll be hard for Conroy to trade him if the Flames are in a playoff position, but that's a pretty small concern that it takes that long.
