What happens if the Flames win that series? Perhaps Tkachuk and Johnny are still here. I don't know if that team wins a cup, but there is no doubt that series altered things.
But on the other hand it caused Tkachuk to be traded to the team that now McDavid can't beat.
The reaction from the Oilers last year was very different. They seemed to come out of that series with confidence, having won 3 straight, that they could beat them if given another crack.
This year their reaction was more defeatist. They seemed broken.

I was actually just coming here to post how much more satisfying this win by the Panthers over the Oilers was this year than it was last year. Last year did feel like Florida just hung on and Edmonton had the momentum. But this year really felt like an Edmonton beat down and hopefully really crushed their spirits. It warms the cockles of my heart.
