Banks are atrocious for that, but they're not the only ones. When my mom passed away, I was trying to cancel her cell phone. They were giving me the run around, and it's like "yeah...she died, and we have no need for the plan any longer". They were relentless, though, and kept trying to find a workaround that would mean we would keep the line. It's appalling that they have people so focused on retention that they can't just handle the most straightforward task and let people get on with their lives.

Cell phone & Cable/Internet companies are the worst.
