The compensation ladder is 7.02 to 9.36 and change. If a team like the Rangers wants to try an offersheet, they'll go to the top of the ladder. So that's why it would be 2.8 more than Coronato. Is it unreasonable to think Peterka would get 7 .02 given that he's had two seasons of 25 plus goals to Coronato's 0?

Peterka would be offered 7,020,113 which would be a 1st and a 3rd.
Nobody is going to over him 7,020,114 which would be a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd. That would be insane. If they are going over the 1st and 3rd compensation level to get him in all likelihood they are going to the top of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd compensation range which would be 9,360,154.
Yes, I could see him getting 7,020,113 which would be a 1st and a 3rd. I cannot see him getting an offer sheet that bumps him into the 1st,2nd and 3rd category though.
As for the bonus example, Peterka cannot sign a contract with bonuses so that is not an option for the Rangers.
