I've been thinking about this for 3 years now. My idea is that people who rule countries have strong lust for power. Which is how they got there in the first place. As such, they need to outplay, dominate, subdue other leaders. There's no rational reason for Israelis and Iranians to kill each other. They live a thousand kilometers away.

Netanyahu and Ayatollah though? They both have spent their lives climbing up, outplaying, competing, dominating. They are trying to "win" because they are naturally very competitive and ambitious. It's their nature. It's a game for them.
