Now those vets are old and because they didn’t stick with a rebuild they have few prospects to make a run. It’s really a warning to us in many ways. I like Conroy but he can’t take the Burke approach even if we somehow hit a home run with a prospect. It requires some careful drafting with some adds here and there of some vets. Too many vets and by the time the run happens those old guys are aged.

I don't think it's fair to say that they expedited the process at all TBH.
Pieces like Zibanejad, Kreider, Buchnevich, etc were already in the organization.
Then they traded for Fox who is a Norris winner, drafted Shesterkin who is a Vezina winner, and signed Panarin who was a Hart candidate.
In addition to that they had 4 top 10 picks (7, 9, 1, 2) and 8 1st round picks, over a 4 year stretch.
With those 8 picks they got:
Andersson, Chytil, Kravstov, Miller, Lundqvist, Kakko, Lafreniere, Schneider
To me it just shows you need to draft and develop well, and just getting top 10 picks doesn't guarantee anything. In the end it wasn't accelerating the rebuild or anything like that, they just didn't hit on their picks.
With Kakko and Lafreniere especially being disappointments for where they were selected. If they took Seider and Stutzle with those picks we probably aren't talking about how the Rangers accelerated the rebuild.
