Sadly I'm just not sure it's gonna make much a difference if they're having to go up against National Guard troops and Marines.

I don't think this is the case.
The protests are in defense of undocumented migrants. There is a sliver of America beyond that particular group who is willing to show up and protest (at least during the day). Looking at the footage, it appears to be in the hundreds despite the headlines saying it's "thousands".
Then nightfall arrives, and it turns into a few dozen donkeys who couldn't care less about protest and mostly just want to chuck fireworks at cops. The right wing gets all the footage they like for Fox news, and Dotard gets to take shots at blue states and cities. Half the country thinks LA is burning to the ground. It's not.
The vast majority of Americans are way more interested in their weekend plans than heading down to defend the rights of undocumented people. The attitude may be that "cops suck", but they certainly aren't going to go get in their grill.
There's simply too much quality television for there to be a civil war.
