I was trying not to be too direct and hurt any feelings.
But ya, re-reading "for a great percentage of society they never really fully embraced and never fully accepted the full slate of LGBTQ issues" sure sounds like someone who thinks they out to have a say in how others choose to live their own lives. And think "a great percentage" gives the statement more muscle. 100% of people can be bigots, that doesn't make them right.
You know, I ####ing hate cowboy hats. I don't think anyone should be able to wear them, because they make me uncomfortable. And my Sunday hangout group has a lot of really bad things to say about them corrupting the morals of society through promotion of lawless old west culture. I know a huge number of people who feel the same way. So next month we are going to try to ban the sale of cowboy hats, and protest western clothing stores so that no one can make me feel uncomfortable. I couldn't imagine what I'd do if my kid came home wearing a cowboy hat. I'd be devastated. Have to bring it up with my Sunday hangout group, for sure. They'd have some ideas on how to set him straight.
