I grew up with Sharks fans and still know plenty, and the sentiment down there isn’t overly positive, and fans aren’t having much fun.

I don’t mind people advocating for a decade of misery on the hope it turns into 3-5 years of joy. But let’s not sugar coat it and pretend it’s anything but misery and that the people who are miserable now would be just as or even more miserable then. It sucks. Is it worth it? It can be. But it sucks. Even with a 1st overall pick.
By who's definition? Yours?
At least acknowledge that you are trying to place value on something that can only be subjective to you.

For me, I align much closer with that article that you and Jiri were so happy to smash on, but I thought C4L had the most cogent take on. I, personally, rank my entertainment of the team based on cup chances. This is split into two groups: Active cup chance and future hope for cup chance based on development/acquisition of star players.

The Flames have, historically and recently, been the worst franchise in the league at these things. I didn't find this season entertaining at all, I found it an utter waste.
