To counter that hope by saying the Edmonton model is an awful model or not a model at all is completely missing the point. No one is defending Edmonton's model here. In fact, the idea of Edmonton's model was only brought up by people trying to tear it down as a model to replicate, which again, wasn't what the argument was originally about.
To then point to the Florida, Colorado and Tampa teams as models to follow is incredibly ironic because they were also examples of teams who tanked for elite talent and are now good as a result of that, which was the whole point.

The chance to draft a player of McDavids quality is incredibly rare.
So when you say that’s all that’s being asked just understand how incredibly hard it is to be lucky enough to get a player like him
He is probably the best offensive player in the history of the game
