I disagree with 'Curves2000' post above.
Plenty of soccer players have gone from Brazil (Ronaldo, Ronaldihno, Neymar), Argentina (Messi, Di Maria) to Europe and won the Champions League for European football clubs. Should people from Brazil and Argentina be in uproar that their local clubs cannot compete with the major clubs in Europe? It's a non-starter discussion.
Yes- a Canadian team has not won the Cup since the Habs in 1993 however there are major Canadian contributors on almost every single Cup winning team since then. This is club sports - I do not feel any nationalist sentiments at all.
When it comes to the Blue Jays or Raptors, it makes more sense. There is only 1 MLB team or 1 NBA team from Canada in those leagues.
An American in Kawhi Leonard led the Raptors to their 2019 NBA Title. Now Canadian Shai-Gilgeous Alexander is NBA MVP and has led his team to the NBA Finals along with fellow Canadian Lu Dort. But that's not OK? You feel no Canadian pride because it's a club based in the US? As an avid basketball fan, I'm pumped that a Canadian is the NBA MVP and multiple Canadians are starters for the team favored to win in the NBA Finals.
