Then the cap jumps $9M the year after and then another $9M the year after that. Which is more than enough to accommodate McDavid's new contract and then add additional players.

lol go look at all their UFAs the next two years...that 9M needs to be stretched between like six players. You think they will be paying their starting goalie 2.6M in two seasons?
The Oilers have 2 dmen, 4 forwards and no golies signed beyond next year. All these players know the cap is going up too.
