Listening to the morning show today a lot of the talk was about the Hurricanes being a bit of a soft team but also how essentially they have a ton of cap space and no big contracts to deal with. I have been thinking if they could be the team who would throw $10M at Sam Bennett (if we believe the rumor a team is going to offer that)? Not sure why Benny would turn that down? Massive cash from a contender.
I also feel like both the Flames and Hurricanes would love to go back in time and redo the Tkachuk trade. The Canes should have caved to the Flames ask and the Flames should have pursued the rebuild type deal around Necas++. Hurricanes have been chasing a superstar for years and probably look back at their chance to get Tkachuk and regret not closing that deal. The Flames being in a retool would be better off with the mid-20’s Necas and other assets over the early 30’s Huberdeau and Weegar.
