We're already leaning with a slighter young group of core players in Parehk, Coronato and Zary.
But i'm torn. We'd all love a Barkov 1C, but like what do you do. We can't let perfect be the enemy of good and have to work with what's available. A Barkov type 1C is probably not available in trade, and if they are it's because they have many other warts. We're probably not getting that player at 16th+ overall either.
I'd also love a 6'5 PPG two way #1 Defender and if you look at the mold of most recent winners, they have one.
But we're going to have to work with what's realistically available.
Point was also a successful 1C of a perennial contender. 66 points in his second nhl season.

I'm not sure what Rossi wants but I assume it's around $8 mil. He would be our #1 center right now. He doesn't need to be the #1 guy when it is time to compete.
Once July 1 hits, contracts are going to explode. I epxect Marner will get a deal that everyone will say how do you win with he at the AAV? I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more than $14 mil. Bennett might get $10M and then guys like Ekblad, Ehler and Boesser are going to get too much as well. $8 mil+. Also, some big names can be re-signed on July for next year McDavid, Eichel, Kaprizov, Bedard could set the bar even higher.
My data also says from 2004-2018 you have 5% chance of a 1st liner at the end of the 1st round, 16.5% for 2nd line calibre. The Flames are gaining way to much value to hold onto that pick for a guy like Rossi.
151 guys selected from 21Ov to end of 1st round.
Pasta
M Green
S Theodore
Oettinger
T Rask
Giroux
J Carlson
Konecny
T Thompson
The best players taken in a 15 year stretch 21OV until the end of the 1st round. Really only couple of those guys are a big upgrade on Rossi out of 151 picks
Get him and sign him 8 x 8M
