My 9yr old plays Hockey and Box Lacrosse. Honestly I much prefer lacrosse and wish it was as big up here as it is in Calgary. Even though he's only a 1st year U11 this year he's one of the scoring leaders on his team and is affiliated with a U13 team so has gotten to play up a couple of times. Sherwood Park is putting together a U11A travel team for Calgary's big lacrosse tournament so fingers crossed he makes it and we get to play more lacrosse.

It sucks the season is so short and there's no real avenue for off season training here like there is in Calgary. Hockey is fun too but box lacrosse is such an intense sport. I never played growing up but my kid loves it and it's way more exciting to watch than minor hockey. I would recommend it to anyone - ESPECIALLY if you have girls that might be interested. We know quite a few girls and their parents that are in lacrosse and they absolutely love it. Lots of comments about how much the girls enjoy the physicality that they don't really get anywhere else in their lives and it creates super tight knit teams once they hit the age they split off from the boys (u11).
