Finally reached the "hockey'd out" point for my hockey crazed kid. Been going 6-7 hours a week of Development with him since Mid April + 4 Spring games. Have the Stampede Challenge tournament this weekend and then it slows to only 3 hours a week until the end of June. Likely take July off to golf/Kayak. Then August back to development camps.
My oldest plays too but one year in Spring was enough for him. He just wants to play with buddies. Loves the game but is content to play in the Mid-low divisions. He works his butt off on the ice but doesn't get too hung up on the wins and losses. Comes to the defense of his teammates, loves to pass the puck and buys into the team mentality. He is getting every positive out of hockey without all the negatives.
We put the time and effort in based on their lead. There is not a chance i would want to be in the rink if my kid didn't want to be there. You can tell some kids just despise it at this point. We had an exhibition game for the Spring team and a couple parents were losing their minds over their kids play. The kids were miserable. One of them told me he wants to quit hockey and play football instead.
The reality is that 99% of these kids will be playing non-contact men's league by 23.
