But the problem as Jason14h mentioned is that probably made more sense before they traded for Frost too.
Although I like Pinto as your long term 3C because I think he can play that role really well and they do need to find someone to help Backlund not be solely responsible for tough minutes.

I think though people get too caught up in slotting players on a line up that's a work in progress. Pinto and Frost are similar, agreed. Long term do you want both.....maybe not (or maybe you do depending how the develop). But as is being pointed out, neither are slam dunks, they are work in progresses or maybe just middle line players.
But I doubt Conroy is acquiring either of Frost or hypothetically Pinto because he's trying to shore up our 2b or 3 line centers of the future (although that may very well be the outcome). I assume he's acquiring them because his scouts see greater potential in them vs. what they are currently putting up and sees the opportunity to get an undervalued asset.
You acquire more than 1 Frost / Pinto at this point in the teams development curve because you aren't putting your eggs in one basket. You acknowledge that one or both might not develop into what you hope they can be, but you are giving yourself a greater opportunity to "find" a future 2, 1B or even 1A centre if one them lives up to the potential your scouts see. In these scenarios, you acquire multiple assets (if you can) that fit that description, in hopes that one really works out. You don't just acquire one Frost and hope, you acquire multiple and increase your chances. Essentially, you are hoping at least one becomes a "reverse Bennette" for us. If not, and you end up with a 3c log jam, you keep one and move on from the other.
