GMs oddly have a very long leash in the NHL. They were getting old for years and they continued to build on a relatively aging core. I guess he's done very well as the record shows, despite having some bombs, primarily this deadline, not selling assets high, and that infamous draft where their three in a row 1st rounders were duds. But the whole body of work shows he's done a lot right, so perhaps this is the least they could do.
