It's not childish, it's called sports fandom. The whole "wanting a Canadian team to win the Cup" thing is stupid and doesn't make sense in the realm of sports fandom IMHO. Nowhere else in the sporting world do you hear people wanting to cheer for their rival team to win the league championship or international championship just because they're from the same country or a similar region geographically. You don't see Tampa fans cheering for the Panthers to win it all just because they're both Florida teams. And you wouldn't see Liverpool fans cheer for Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League just because both teams are from England. It's dumb.

Now, it's totally fine to want to cheer for the 'Canadian' team if you haven't hitched your wagon to a specific team, but once you do I would argue it becomes downright insane to actually want to cheer for a rival team of yours once your team is eliminated.
