And he would cost real assets. Conroy has shown no appetite for trading real assets for anything other than futures and has basically avoided trading the type of draft capital one would have to trade for Barzal.
I don’t have a problem getting Marner but that is a move that I could at least see Conroy doing (a free asset) and then trading Anderson (and possibly Backlund and/or Lomberg) for more future assets next season if they are not in the hunt or in Anderson’s case if he won’t re-sign.
Conroy has ran the same plan for basically two years (accumulate young prospects and picks). Suspect he more or less runs that for another year or two. Only possibly exception is if he can snag an elite asset on the free agent market.
