Is this a hunch or have you seen something that suggests this? He is a UFA 2028, so that's when he would have full control. His next RFA contract will start 2026 (season after next).
He would have to force the Flames into a 2 year RFA deal to leave as soon as he has full control. With what he is now and looks to be on track to become that would go down as one of the biggest contract blunders in modern hockey history. And I haven't heard anything to suggest he is looking to bolt as soon as he has control like that to the point of forcing our hand that badly.
That's why I'm curious what you had heard.
