No one has indicated Vancouver won't get some interesting pieces, just not guys like Hiescher and Bratt.
I could see Hamilton, Nemac, Mercer, draft picks etc.
But it's all predicated on the Hughes brothers letting it be known they want to play together and puts a ticking clock on Vancouver.
This is entirely different than a single player being speculated he'd like to play in his home town, like Kane in Buffalo. Kane never said it, just speculation. If Quinn lets it be known he wants to sign with NJ when he reaches UFA, that decreases his trade value to a 2 year rental, and starts going down from there the longer he stays in Vancouver.

Colorado got a haul for a few weeks of a great player. You’re arguing that Vancouver won’t because there is only 2 years left of a contract of an elite player. Just doesn’t make any sense at all.
Now, I’m not saying Van will get a haul. But the contract is not prohibitive. 2 years is two cup runs for some teams, which could be huge to add Hughes to. And a lot can change. Even if Hughes wants to play in NJ, there’s no guarantee, so (like e’ve seen countless times) it’s entirely possible he finds a better fit than Vancouver and sticks there well beyond 2 years.
Either way, this idea that NJ can just wait this out until free agency has no actual basis in reality. It just doesn’t happen.
