I am not sure the Canucks should trade for an older player than Hughes if they are moving off of him. I don’t think there is enough of a supporting cast to build a contender in the near future. Canucks would be wise to avoid the Flames path with the Tkachuk trade and accept a rebuild in a year where the first pick is incredibly highly touted. The flames were given the rebuild path in 2022 and chose to double down on the supporting cast and assume the new stars they brought in would carry the team. Despite Kadri and Weegar being full marks the fall of Huberdeau and many of the supporting players like Lindholm and Markstrom peaking in 2022 the flames are in this weird half rebuild half compete position right now.
Canucks likely join that path since their owner is similar as ours in being vehemently opposed to tanking. Maybe you are right and they chase a piece like Hischier instead of long term rebuilding pieces.
