Only because Dillon and Hughes were hurt.
Bahl was not very good when he was a Devil. He took way too many penalties and had a penchant for turning the puck over. I will give him credit for cleaning up the penalties after getting to Calgary. He still turns the puck over too often to be considered a reliable defenseman.
A team can only afford to have so many young defensemen developing on your team at the same time. IMO he was fourth in line after Hughes, Nemec and Casey in terms of the prospect depth. Moving Bahl and a mid-first round pick for a proven goalie at 50% retained made sense for both teams.
I'd make the trade again today.
