I do think this is a Canada thing and not a lets screw the Albertans issue.
15-20 years ago they discovered a swath of mineral deposits up in Northern Ontario - some politician called it the oil sands of Ontario. They still haven't even built a road to it yet and it was coming up in this recent election.
