I'm not so sure someone can look at the results and just assume the Liberal and NDP coalition is what makes the most sense. This election signaled a general shift to the right including the near complete rejection of the NDP.

The Liberals themselves shifted right to maintain their centrist hold. People supported the Liberals with a new leader and a promised greater focus on the economy. An NDP coalition does not bode well for the Liberals at the next election IMO - it signals that they are in fact the same party that people largely rejected a few months ago.
