To me, the number one issue was to prevent PP being the prime minister. He would immediately capitulate to Trump, just like Smith is doing.
I wish the Conservatives had a better leader because it's not a good thing to have decade+ long governments, so I wanted the Liberals out.
All things considered, this election was the best case scenario IMO:
1. PP is not prime minister,
2. Even better, he lost his seat.
3. Liberals got a minority, so they can be held a little bit more accountable.
4. Liberals were sent a message that Canada wants some change
5. Carney remains PM.
Evan Soloman did an interview with Global (I had no idea he was running) and he said it best. This election was about standing up and defending Canada against America and he felt Carney was a special leadership candidate. Even said he was generational. He felt he had to join the fight to help Carney win.
