Not sure why anybody would want a smart tv. I have a dumb 10 yr old Samsung and an AppleTV and don’t go through the same hassles as other people seem to be incurring. Seems like grasping at straws for justifications to pirate, I guess.

Paying for a platform is infinitely more convenient than pirating. Ads aren't even all that intrusive after living with traditional TV for 40 years. The problem is that some apps conflict with some casting/streaming devices, and if you're even a year or two behind on hardware you'll experience something as stupid as not being able to turn off subtitles.
At least, that's what I'm assuming it is. Although I still can't switch it off using a browser, and the service keeps cutting in and out.
