I think if he is not in the long term plans, you really should trade him before the season starts. I don't want to see a situation where the Flames are a bubble team and making the decision difficult as the deadline approaches.
Plus, I think it would be more fair to Andersson to give him a full season with a new team that may want him longer term so he can start building up some goodwill there for negotiating an extension. If it is stability he wants, it would be more helpful than to trade him at the deadline as a rental just for him to have to move on again quickly.
