The problem with a lot of potential destinations for Andersson is they wouldn’t be able to fit him into their long-term salary structure. Some potential landing spots (MIN, STL, UTA, WIN) have two RD locked up at $5 mil+ beyond next season. Even with the cap going up, teams will be reluctant to pay a guy that much to play on the third pairing. Others (DET) have a blue-chip RD prospect in the system that Andersson would be blocking with a long-term deal. There’s also the problem that most of the top contenders in the league (COL, DAL, FLA, TBL, TOR) don’t have a first round pick in either the 2025 or 2026 drafts.
There will probably only be 3-4 real suitors for Andersson, and half of them will be looking at him as a one-season rental.
