Kings need to manage puck possession in the oilers zone when Mavi is on the ice. It sounds ridiculous I know, but that was literally the oilers breakout strategy. They are willing to take their chances that they can get the puck out of the zone and Mavi is 1 on 1 with the defender. When the kings maintain possession, it’s 5 v 4 and it’s tiring on the oilers.
Also, the Kings need to be aware of Mavi doing the magical crossovers in his own zone and the oilers dumping the puck back to him on greaser PPs. He’s hitting the kings blue line at speed and basically daring them to take a penalty.
Finally, and I don’t know why the referees can’t see it when it’s clear as day, is the oilers grabbing the opponents stick either to get leverage or to fall over to draw a penalty. It’s an epidemic, and the nhl needs to come out and say that either they are going to ignore it, or they are going to call it. Think about it; if you and I are battling for a puck, but I’m holding your stick, you literally have no play.
And for Pete’s sake, score on the empty net!

They won't call this as long as its a superstar. Similar to the difference in rules that the top players play by in the NBA. I can't stand it but thats the reality of entertainment. People are wanting to see Mcdavid put up points, not get defended by other players
