What a great first episode.
Not everything has to be fast and kinetic to be good. They're establishing these characters and deepening the significance of Joel and Elle's relationship and the rift between them. I like that there are some good people at the settlement and a semblance of government and humanitarianism there. It's going to make whatever chaos to come hit that much more.
The grocery sequence had me on edge. I'm enjoying these characters and the canadian scenery a lot (believe this season was filmed in BC around Whistler and Vancouver).
Edit: Looks like there was some AB filming, with the snow covered scenes filmed out in Exshaw. I knew the backdrop during the scouting sequence looked familiar.
