I think the Flames were stuck.
They got more out of a team than expected. Were winning. They didn't want to torpedo their 3rd pairing and rely on a guy with a broken foot to play 30 minutes by bringing in a guy that needs to learn the defensive side of the puck at the NHL level.
So the 11/7 option was the only path, but ...
Klapka pops and moves up the roster, meaning they'd likely have to take out Lomberg to fit him in which would be like an exorcism to the team culture.
I'm glad they kept winning, which will keep the second guessing down to all but the most silly contingent of arm chair quarterback.
