Great to have the leadership Weegar appears to bring, but this is ridiculous IMO. This same team that has the heart and drive you describe, is captained by a great person in backland. He deserves credit for his leadership in bringing this group so closely together. There is absolutely zero reason to take his C away even if he is going to be a 4th line C next season.
