Just pick the one people are getting excited about, don't worry about crafting the perfect plutonic ideal of a candidate to appeal to everyone, that's how they get into these messes.
AOC was overly aggressive in her rhetoric early on which offended some (I personally think she has toned it down without moderating, which i think is very politically savvy, and it was also probably politically savvy to be controversial early while brand building, so she might be the person).
Buttigieg might be the guy, but even if it looks like it will be him there will be worried about going to another white man (and not "representing" everyone), or going to a gay man and offending "middle" America
Newsom will create concern that they are just drifting back to another 60+ white man, and doubling down on a safe state. (57 now, he will be turning 61 shortly before the next election)
There is no right answer, but they just have to go with whoever is generating political buzz at the time and not worry about demographic so much.
