I get what you mean. It probably doesn't happen often, but in this scenario I will be happy if he stays or goes. T
They don't have anything coming down the pipe that will help McDavid and Draisaitl in the next few years. They traded away their next two first rounders and so they don't have a first rounder until 2027. They are going to be in the same position that Chiarelli was in and trying to build a team out from UFA signings. We all know how well that worked for them last time. Oilers have probably had dead cap space for the last 15 years because of bad signings. (still 4 or 5 years more of Campbell).
If he decides to leave they may have to trade him knowing they don't get the 2026 pick which might end up being Mckenna. Or they try to keep him and he walks for nothing.
