Or back before running in 2016, Trump would never have polled that high for the Republicans this early. His candidacy was largely seen as a gimmick at the beginning and was brushed off by many in the same party.
I could see them latching on to a red state Democrat like Andy Beshear. He could help bridge the culture divide.
