Yes. Carney has been rumoured to be a potential successor to Trudeau for years now. If it was Karina Gould kicking PP's ass up and down Wellington St. right now, you'd have a point, but Carney was either the front runner or a close second as the heir apparent to the LPC for a long time. There was actually an argument that he should hold off for next time because it looked like it would be a waste of a viable PM candidate to run this time given the polling situation, until Trump started Trumping.
