I don't see it as making excuses for the right -- he knows where the GOP uses the mistakes of the Democrats to their advantage with voters, and he rightfully tells the Democrats to stop screwing up. It's usually some permutation of 'you keep doing [insert thing here] that drives normal people insane and turns them off, and the Republicans take advantage of [thing], stop doing that'. He comes off as exceedingly frustrated that Democrats can't seem to get out of their own way long enough to win and the GOP constantly get away with everything.
I, for one, am quite happy that there's a role-reversal going on up here and it's the CPC that keep finding ways to lose. They haven't put forward anything or anyone that says they deserve to win.
