Here's the thing.
In terms of the playing style on the ice being "safe" this year - that's not too much of a surprise. The roster isn't that talented and low risk / defensive structure is probably what any coach is going to deploy with this roster. And the team probably did out perform expectations.
BUT when given an opportunity to take a little risk with your player deployment / roster decisions you need to be able to assess that decision.
Stuff like Kerins not being called back up even though Zary, Frost, and Pospisil have all been nursing things makes no sense. He's a guy that can provide an offensive spark like he did in his 5 games earlier this year.
And not playing Parekh now is also too safe - you have a blue chip prospect that can completely alter the Powerplay which has been a pain point for most of the season, and you're too scared to use him now at the risk of him making a mistake.
The team playing a safe game on the ice is not a surprise, but the organization making the "safe" decisions off the ice all seasons is what has been very frustrating.
